The Vale of the White Horse

The Vale of the White Horse is an area of chalk hills, into which chalk carvings have been dug and maintained over centuries. The chalk horse at Uffington (near Swindon) is the most famous chalk carving and is on National Trust land. The green hills and fresh air and that air of mystery surrounding the carving make a visit a magical experience. The breeding of race-horses is traditional for this area, with the Vale of the Racehorse and the town of Newbury being not far away.
